The Dungloe Community Housing project is to proceed to construction stage immediately. The announcement comes following a number of issues which arose and threatened the project’s viability recently. Both Deputy Pearse Doherty and Pat the Cope Gallagher have held a number of emergency meetings with Minister Finian Mc Grath recently in order to overcome the issues. The issues had been highlighted by the HSE and were imposing massive constraints on the overall sustainability of the project in Dungloe. The project is funded by the Department of Housing and consists of Community Group Houses numbering 3 housing units of 4 individual self-contained bedrooms at Fair Hill Dungloe. The formal approval was granted to the Co Donegal Parents and Friends for People with Intellectual Disabilities for this development to progress to construction stage. Each proposed unit will consist of 4 individual living accommodations – made up of ensuite room up to current HIQA standards and each unit then will have a communal sitting room, quiet room, visitor room and dining room. When completed it is anticipated that the 3 units will provide assisted living accommodation for 12 people in total. This development will replace the existing unit on the Church Road at Dungloe. The proposed new development will be funded by the Department of Housing and Local Government and we expect construction works to begin within a matter of months.Pat the Cope and Pearse Doherty both added “We wish to pay tribute to the board of the Parents and Friends Association, who have worked tirelessly and have brought the project to this stage.“They have dedicated a great deal of time and planning into making this project a success and now as the project moves to construction stage they have a great deal to be proud of.“We wish also to acknowledge the work of the officials of the Housing Section of Donegal County Council for their excellent work on this project. “We also must acknowledge the intervention of Minister of State Finian Mc Grath, who through his offices and our continuous lobbying of the Department – the entire development as originally proposed and designed, will now proceed to construction rather than a scaled downed version which the HSE were proposing.“It was this revised proposal that lead to the recent delay in finally appointing a contractor for this most worthwhile development. But, we are glad to report that the entire project is to proceed now without delay and as originally proposed.”Both TDs met with the County Donegal Parents & Friends committee to convey this good news as the group were most anxious about the recent delays that were stalling this project.Dungloe housing project to proceed after issues was last modified: May 14th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:donegaldungloehousing
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest We haven’t done any harvesting yet. We have some beans that are getting close. Guys are slowly starting to harvest. It sounds like the crops are doing pretty decent. I looked at a corn test plot yesterday to the south of us. They had anything from 220 to 280 in the test plots and hopefully that is a sign of what it will be like when we get out in the fields. We are maybe a week or so away from harvesting beans yet. There was a tornado that touched down about 30 or 40 miles to the north of us the other day. They got a bunch of rain and really heavy winds. We didn’t get anything out of it. It was near Middlefield. We got a couple of tenths of rain Friday evening. Everything so far has been standing pretty well. There are some beans leaning but once they lose the leaves and get the weight off of them they are standing back up. Hopefully that means they have a lot of pods on them. Most of the alfalfa hay is finished around here and there are guys done chopping corn and some guys are just getting into it. Yield wise, everyone I have talked to has been getting really good tonnage this year and a lot of guys didn’t chop all that they planned on chopping. Most of the sudangrass and millet we planted after wheat is higher than our heads right now. We are hoping to get 150 acres of wheat out this fall too. We contracted our wheat for next year plus we rolled some over. It should be a pretty profitable crop if we can get the yield. We haven’t seen too much difference in basis from what it usually is. We have Case Farms, a chicken farm, they take quite a bit of corn from the area and then there is an ethanol plant south of us that takes quite a bit corn too. If you’ve got storage and can store it after harvest you have places to take it around here.

Parliament is set to witness a full-blooded spectre on Wednesday when Manmohan Singh’s government would try and defend – what the Opposition has successfully portrayed as – the “indefensible”. The blip from sports minister Ajay Maken, blaming the NDA regime for appointing Suresh Kalmadi as the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chairman, has snowballed into a no- holds- barred debate in both Houses.A visibly cornered government was continually at the receiving end on Tuesday. Not merely because a disgraced Kalmadi is already cooling his heels in Tihar Jail, but also since the Opposition’s onslaught, backed by the CAG report and other documentary evidences, looked scathingly credible. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP veteran Arun Jaitley went for the kill and said the entire government brass, including the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), looked the other way as Kalmadi hijacked the conduct of the Games. The OC, Jaitley said, was intended to be a government entity, or at least a government- supported body, but Kalmadi got it registered as a private society.”This completed the hijack and the objections of sports ministers (Sunil Dutt, Mani Shankar Aiyar and M. S. Gill) were ignored. The Prime Minister overruled everyone, even a recommendation of the GoM, and allowed the OC to become Kalmadi’s personal fiefdom,” he said. The BJP leader demanded that the government must identify the source from where Kalmadi drew his immense powers, and pointed out that the Pune MP had claimed to be appointed as the OC chief after a series of meetings with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.advertisement”The political heads of the government of India and Delhi are accountable to the country through Parliament. The government never took the House into confidence and presented a twisted version of the facts on this monumental fraud,” Jaitley added.Speaking for the government, Rashid Alvi (Congress) presented a feeble defence and blamed the CAG for exceeding its brief by commenting on policy matters and the appointment of Kalmadi. This led to an uproar in the House with CPM’s Prasanta Chatterjee regretting the practice of constantly attacking the CAG.The CPI’s D. Raja wouldn’t settle for describing the conduct of the Games as anything less than a “financial loot” of taxpayers’ money. “If there are skeletons in the cupboards, all should come out. The PMO had a crucial role in appointing Kalmadi and, therefore, the PM should personally respond to all this,” he said.Raja said the estimates of organising the CWG went up from Rs 1,200 crore to Rs 18,532 by 2010. “The then finance minister (P. Chidambaram) should explain this financial loot,” he added. The Opposition said heads must roll, and identified Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit as the one who must instantly go. Their other demand was that nothing less than a Supreme Court- monitored CBI probe can take the lid off the wrongdoings. In the Lok Sabha, the BJP’s Yashwant Sinha said the PM failed to act against Kalmadi despite complaints by at least two sports ministers and senior officials. ” Kalmadi could have been removed any time over the years ( from 2004 to 2010),” he said.More trouble seems to be in store for Sheila DikshitDelhi Lokayukta, Justice Manmohan Sarin, has sought the latest CAG report to explore if a case can be made out on the basis of the report, which indicted the CM. The move gains significance since the Opposition has been demanding Dikshit’s resignation on corruption charges related to the Commonwealth Games.

The NBA playoffs are in full swing and Ohio State fans looking for a reason to watch the games need look no further than the four former Buckeyes playing in them. Former OSU basketball players Evan Turner, Mike Conley, Daequan Cook and Kosta Koufos are all playing in this season’s NBA playoffs. Turner plays in the Eastern Conference as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, while Conley, Cook and Koufos are in the Western Conference playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets, respectively. All four players were recruited by and played for OSU basketball coach Thad Matta. The fact that they’re all vying for the NBA title in the same season speaks loudly of Matta and the OSU basketball program. Conley and Cook were members of the “Thad Five” 2007 NCAA runner-up team. Koufos was named the National Invitation Tournament MVP when the Buckeyes won the tournament in 2008, and Turner became the first OSU player to win the John R. Wooden Award in 2010. Since taking over the basketball program for the 2004-2005 season, Matta has turned the Buckeyes into perennial NCAA championship contenders and brought some of the best basketball talent to Columbus that the program has ever seen. Taking OSU to two Final Fours (2007, 2012), Matta has won five Big Ten championships (2006, 2007 and 2010-2012) and seen seven of his players drafted into the NBA: Greg Oden (2007), Conley (2007), Cook (2007), Koufos (2008), B.J. Mullens (2009), Turner (2010) and Jon Diebler (2011). That number will likely grow to nine after this season’s NBA draft where it’s expected that former Buckeyes Jared Sullinger and William Buford will be selected. Not including Sullinger, projected as a first-rounder in the 2012 Draft, Matta has produced six first-round draft picks, including the only top two picks in program history with Oden (No. 1 overall) and Turner (No. 2 overall) in their respective drafts. Matta has produced more NBA draft talent in a five-year span from 2007-2011 than Duke’s NCAA men’s all-time winningest coach Mike Krzyzewski (five draft picks), Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim (five), Connecticut’s Jim Calhoun (four), Michigan State’s Tom Izzo (one) and as much as North Carolina’s Roy Williams (seven). The skill level of the players that Matta has recruited to OSU to play basketball should not be taken lightly and the NBA playoffs are simply a microcosm of the talent Matta is responsible for. In each of the last four NBA seasons, at least two of Matta’s former Buckeyes have played on basketball’s biggest stage, and lately they’ve been making their presence felt. In 2011, Conley helped Memphis upset the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs, becoming only the fourth No. 8 seed to beat a No. 1 seed in the NBA playoffs. He averaged 15.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game and 6.4 assists per game in the 2011 playoffs with the Grizzlies. This season, Conley and Memphis are back in postseason play and as of Tuesday night, he’s averaging 17.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.5 assists through four games in a series with the Los Angeles Clippers. Turner is attempting to match Conley’s and the Grizzlies’ feat from a season ago. Through the first four games of the series between the Sixers and the Chicago Bulls the former OSU Wooden Award winner is averaging 14.0 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game and 3.8 assists per game. From 1996 to 2005, there were just four Buckeyes to play in an NBA playoff game, Jim Jackson, Lawrence Funderburke, Herb Williams, and Michael Redd. OSU has four former players, all products of Matta, in this season’s playoffs alone. If Sullinger and Buford are selected in the 2012 NBA Draft, nine Buckeyes under Matta will have been drafted in the span of six seasons. To put that into perspective, the previous nine OSU basketball players selected into the NBA draft span across the course of 19 drafts from 1983-2001, with only four first-round selections. As long as Matta continues to roam the sidelines in Columbus, Buckeye fans should expect to have a rooting interest in May and June when the NBA playoffs come around.
