first_imgApple had the courage to kill off the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. They also had the courage to force you to buy an adapter if you want to hook one up to a new MacBook Pro.That’s right, the phone that Apple just put on sale last month doesn’t plug in to the MacBook Pro they just revealed this month. Instead, you’ll need to purchase an adapter. Don’t worry, though. Apple hasn’t totally hung you out to try. They’ll sell you the adapter you need for just $19.Can drive four 4k displays at once… can’t connect to an iPhone 7 without helpThe adapter is required equipment now because the new MacBook Pro has shed several of the ports the old version had. There’s no Magsafe, no HDMI, and no USB type A ports. They’ve all been ditched in favor of USB-C and Thunderbolt. So… They ditched the headphone jack and throw in the Lightning to headphone adapter with every iPhone 7, but they’re charging you another $19 for a a USB type-C to USB A adapter for a laptop you paid a minimum of $1,499 for? You can find a highly-rated third party adapter for around $7. It won’t come in Apple’s packaging, though, and when you’re dropping $1,500 or $2,000 on a laptop there’s a good chance you aren’t all that worried about saving yourself $12.But hey, as long as you’re throwing down extra money for adapters, why not pick one up that brings back one of the MacBook’s best features, the Magsafe charger? Griffin will sell you one of those for another $35.last_img
